It has been great to hear from two of our Local Partners in Romania, Monika Szabo and Maia Indries, who have been taking their music skills to a people attending a hospice in Tinca. Monika explained that their original aims were to use music to add to the patients’ quality of life, to increase their sense of belonging to the hospice community through music, to use making music for enjoyment and – in doing so – to discover inner strengths. To help them think about the sessions they are running, we were pleased to be able to share some of our experiences from working in Hospice Ethiopia last year.

It is always exciting for us to hear how people we train take forward their independent music practice. This is a great example: Monika and Maia received Introductory Training from us back in 2002 and they are still developing their work in new ways. It would be great to hear more about the role of music for people in hospices in Romania. Perhaps at the 5th Annual Music Therapy Conference in Brasov later this year?
