Romania Support Activities
We endeavour to offer our Local Partners in Romania activities tailored to their needs, in keeping with our commitment to supporting them extend their music programmes. As well as responding to individual requests from Local Partners and keeping in touch via email bulletins, this year we have been working on some new initiatives:
1) We have been supervising and supporting our Local Partners in Oradea as they developed their first training course, sharing their music skills with colleagues keen to get involved in the music programme at the Special School where they work:
2) We are building on the success of this course by involving its leaders, Monica Szabo and Maia Indries, in a Training of Trainers course we are delivering in September. This course will be led by Music Therapist Cathy Rowland, and is open to any of our Local Partners who want to think about how best to share their music skills with others, thus building local capacity for this area of work.
3) We offered a 2-day training course to local workers in Timisoara, in partnership with our Local Partners at the Art Therapy Centre there, focusing on the use of music in work with children with visual impairments. Advisory Panel member and Music Therapist Julia Serabriakov compiled a comprehensive written resource pack and travelled to Romania for us to deliver the training.
3) Stepped Programme of Learning: In response to continuing requests for introductory music therapy training, and taking into consideration the reforming care context in which our Romanian colleagues are now working, we decided to offer a distance learning course in music as therapy. Advisory Panel member and Music Therapist Emma Lovell is leading our development of this. Invitations to register for the course, which will comprise a series of online tutorials and both written and practical assignments, will be welcome from September 2010. Please email janerobbie@musicastherapy.org for more information.
See the links on the right for further information on these current activities, or take a look at Portfolio of Activities for insight into the breadth of activities we have delivered over the years.
"What is incredibly rewarding is to think that seven years on, the team I trained at a Special School in Oradea, Romania are now really thriving. Not only have they a well established music programme up and running, they are now even training their colleagues! I would never have imagined that all my inital hard work would have led to a second and third "generation" of enthusiastic workers!" Cathy Rowland, Music Therapist (Project Oradea, 2002)
