Last Wednesday, Interactive Music-Makers gathered on Zoom for the final CPD Event of the year. After such a strange nine months it was a great opportunity to discuss the idiosyncrasies of 2020, and how nearly a year of living alongside a pandemic has affected the children we care for. Early years practitoners have been acclimatising their children back into the nursery and school setting since September, and we discussed how music could be used in the very different conditions we find ourselves in now. We thought about running IMM sessions outdoors, considering logistical issues of social distancing and ventilation, but also musical activities that suit the outdoors. We also discussed helping anxious children return to or begin nursery, after so long in lockdown. Thank you to everyone who came, and to Sarah Hadley for facilitating such an interesting discussion!

Sarah was amazingly positive and supportive. She gave so many useful ideas for potential activities I could do in my outside space and it was also good to have confirmation for some of my logistical ideas. I feel more ready and prepared to start organising my sessions now! It’s boosted my confidence enormously.’ – Carolyn, IMM 2019
