Last year has been challenging in so many ways. And I often doubted if we should continue our Music as Therapy course in Jordan. With the generous support of our partners Soka Gakkai and the limitless efforts of Music as Therapy International, this one year course prepares professionals to give Music as Therapy sessions to children with special needs, using music as a tool to express, communicate and have a meaningful time together. Our nine trainees from our last training cycle are all based and working in Amman, and come from Jordan, Syria and Palestine. They work with 229 children with diverse and complex special needs at Al-Masar Child Development Services and Al-Bunayat Center.
At the end of the course, we ask the trainees to write a reflection on their learning experience. It’s a long read, but I would love you to read Heba’s reflection until the end. It’s not easy to write a reflection and be so honest about your own doubts or about the things you can improve. Heba was brave enough to do just this. Through her writing, we get an inside of the challenges and the importance of the Music as Therapy course. I can only imagine how lucky her students are to have such a caring, hard working and honest teacher. Thank you Heba!
