For some time now, we’ve been pursuing ways to strengthen the coordination, delivery and content of our long-standing structured training for early years practitioners, Interactive Music-Making.

In 2017 we launched the Interactive Music-Making Awards, providing up to seven settings with a free place on the course, a free set of musical instruments and a contribution to staff cover.

Then, in 2022 We introduced our Associates model, welcoming several partner organisations to help co-deliver the training elements of the course.

This year, we’ve gone one step further by recruiting music therapist Lucy Osborne as our new dedicated Course Leader, a role which will see her take on responsibility for all things Interactive Music-Making in the UK.

Needless to say, we’re delighted to welcome Lucy to the team!

Lucy brings a wealth of experience to the role. Alongside her new work with Music as Therapy International, she is a practising music therapist within an NHS Child Development Service, and works in specialist Autism provisions in primary schools.

Her music therapy work focuses on supporting children’s communication, peer interactions, and emotional wellbeing, and she’s passionate about working collaboratively with staff and parents—helping them take tools from music therapy into children’s daily lives.

After completing a Music Degree with a Year Abroad in France, Lucy went on to gain her MA in Music Therapy from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since then, she has worked extensively with children and families in both mainstream and specialist early years settings, building particular expertise with children who have social communication difficulties, complex needs, and those who have experienced trauma.

Lucy is an excellent addition to our small team and she’s excited to lead the Interactive Music-Making course, supporting early years practitioners to build their confidence in leading their own music sessions and making music an everyday part of the care they offer.

We’re thrilled to have Lucy on board – welcome!
