Earlier this summer, our Interactive Music-Making students came together for the final stage of their learning journey. Over the past eight months, our brilliant group of early years practitioners have embraced both the challenges and the joys of becoming Interactive Music-Makers – exploring key theorists, workshopping activities, and taking the leap of faith to lead their own sessions with the young children they support.
Despite some inevitable nerves, our students’ Presentation Day is always a day of celebration. Marking the final component of the course, it’s an opportunity to recognise their achievements, reflect on growth, and champion the positive difference their music-making sessions have brought to children’s lives.
Working across different settings and with differing age groups, our practitioners beautifully demonstrated the versatility of the Interactive Music-Making approach. We heard examples of how exploring different musical instruments sparked children’s creativity; how turn-taking nurtured peer awareness; how listening to one another’s contributions encouraged new ideas and engagement; how opportunities for musical leadership empowered children, and how involving parents could foster a supportive space for children to try new experiences.
Six early years practitioners have successfully graduated as Interactive Music-Makers so far this year and we are delighted to welcome them to our growing network. This year’s programme has seen:
- 51 children participate in Interactive Music-Making sessions
- 8 early years practitioners take part in training, embedding Interactive Music-Making into their practice
- 1,091 children with the opportunity to access music as part of their early years provision in the months and years ahead
“The children love it! As soon as they know it’s a music session, they’re there!”
