Farewell and Thank You Makeda
- Organisation
Today we say farewell to Makeda Mitchell, our International Programme Manager and one of a kind team member whose contributions over the past eight years have shaped Music as Therapy International in so many ways. Makeda’s commitment, passion and leadership have helped strengthen care with music across the globe, reaching caregivers, practitioners, partners and beneficiaries in every region we work.
Makeda began her journey with us as a Team Assistant and, over the years, grew into the role of International Programme Manager, guiding our global programmes with insight and integrity. She has made a significant contribution to key elements of our work, from the Distance Learning Programme in Georgia and Romania to multiple on-site tailored training projects across many regions. Whether representing Music as Therapy International at international conferences or collaborating closely with partners in Rwanda, Ethiopia, India, Palestine, the DRC and beyond, Makeda has played a central role in expanding our reach and deepening our impact.
Over the last eight years Makeda has been much more than a colleague: she has been a thoughtful mentor, an inspiring team member, and a steadfast advocate for our mission. Her belief in the power of music to transform care has helped shape our programmes, strengthen partnerships, and cultivate cherished memories for everyone she worked with.
While it is bittersweet to see Makeda step down from her day-to-day role, we are delighted that she will continue to contribute to the charity’s vision as a Trustee from January. Her insight and dedication will continue to be a guiding light for us all.
Makeda, you were such a vital part of this team and you will be sorely missed. We look forward to celebrating Makeda’s journey in more depth in our Stories section soon.
With gratitude,
The Music as Therapy International Team
