This World Alzheimer’s Day, we are delighted to release a brand new resource to inspire both family and professional caregivers to explore the role of music in day-to-day dementia care.

Our new resource titled ‘Be inspired: The role of music in dementia care’, recently featured in Independent Living, Mental Health Design and Build, and The Hippocratic Post, offers an accessible introduction for people who are interested to get started or learn more about using music in the care they provide.

There is a wealth of research which evidences the proven ways music can have a huge positive impact on the lives and wellbeing of people with dementia. As well as reducing agitation and distress, music can join a fragmented existence together, giving people a sense of who they are in the here-and-now and offer them ways to connect with those around them.

Did you know that music therapy reduces agitation and need for medication in 67% of people living with dementia?

“Music and Dementia — the facts”, Music for Dementia

Our new resource offers ideas, questions and inspiration for choosing the right music to use, as well as things to look out for to help make the most of any shared musical experiences.

The resource’s content has been created as part of our upcoming new online training course, Music Helps (UK), which we aim to launch in late 2023. To learn more about the role of music in dementia care, sign up to register your interest to participate in the course when it is launched in a few months’ time.
