This year, we’ll be hosting our Interactive Music-Making (IMM) programme in Hackney, East London, marking a switch up from its usual home in south-east London.

Alongside this change of venue, we are delighted to welcome Primary Advantage as our newest Interactive Music-Making Associates – who will also kindly be hosting this year’s programme.

Primary Advantage is a federation of seven primary schools in Hackney who work closely and collaboratively together to ensure the best education and outcomes for the children in their communities.  They work widely in partnership with other organisations across Hackney, London and beyond and have collaborated with Music as Therapy International to host an inset day for all their EYFS staff and in sending participants on previous IMM courses.  They are delighted to be hosting this IMM course in Hackney and to welcome practitioners from other schools to their venue to participate in the training.

In their words:

We are really excited to be involved with the IMM course this year. We have been lucky enough for two of our practitioners across the Federation to have already taken part in the IMM training, equipping them with the skills to deliver high quality group sessions targeted at our nursery children.

These sessions have significantly improved children’s attention, listening and communication skills. Children are now much more confident in turn taking and sharing, demonstrating improved social interactions. The principles of IMM align seamlessly with our principles of high-quality early years education. By integrating music as a tool to learning, we’ve observed a real impact on children’s social communication skills, laying strong foundations for their future learning and well-being.

The practitioners involved have fallen in love with music again and their confidence to lead small group sessions with music as a focus has increased.
