Who is the course for?

The course is for primarily for anyone working with children under the age of 5, including independent practitioners, community musicians, and music practitioners with relevant early years’ experience.

Where and when will the course run?

This is a part-time course. Weekly tutorials and practical workshops will be held in Hackney, East London, from Friday 6th November to Friday 12th February 12pm-3pm (with a break over Christmas). Between February and May 2027, you will deliver 8 weeks of supervised Interactive Music-Making sessions in your own setting.

Do I need any prior musical skills to apply?

No! Interactive Music-Making is suitable and accessible for all early years’ practitioners.

What are the course fees?

Full course fees are £750. However, we never want cost to be a barrier to accessing training, which is why we offer a range of financial support options.

7 FREE Award places are available to applicants from early years settings each year, covering:

  • Full course fees
  • Up to £650 contribution towards staff cover and travel to attend training
  • Where required, a full set of musical instruments to equip your setting

Subsidised places are also available on request for independent applicants who aren’t eligible for an Award place, or for settings who don’t require a full Award place.

Find more details within the application form or contact us to find out what support is available to you.

How do I apply?

If you are applying from an early years setting and wish to apply for an Award place (available to early years settings only, max 1 Award place per setting):

To apply for a fully paid or part-subsidised place, the applying practitioner should complete the IMM Student Application Form only.

Apply by Thursday 15th October 2027.

It is deeply gratifying putting the workshop and theoretical teachings, taught by Lucy, Alexia and the IMM Tutor team, into practice. Mixing [everything] with my own creative ideas, lived experience and passion for music continues to help me create a unique and tailored musical experience for families. This is such a heartwarming and rewarding experience.
