It was a joy to hear from recent IMM graduates how they are embedding Interactive Music-Making into their settings. Many are sharing skills with their colleagues, so that more children can benefit from their sessions. One practitioner described the following skill-sharing model:

Colleague observes an IMM session

1. IMM practitioner and colleague practise musical activities together

2. IMM practitioner and colleague co-run an IMM session

3. Colleague runs IMM session independently

4. Evaluation meeting

We also discussed how to adapt musical activities to meet the changing needs and aims of children. Ideas included introducing turn taking during parachute songs, offering choice cards during movement activities and promoting autonomy when exploring musical instruments.

In future CPD events, we are considering refreshing knowledge on some theories from the IMM course – Unconditional Positive Regard, Affect Attunement, Zone of Proximal Development… do you remember these?
