You may be aware that Music as Therapy International was founded by Alexia Quin when care practitioners in Romania wanted to learn how they could use music to support the children they were looking after and there was little in the way of relevant training available locally.

For 25 years we have had the privilege of working alongside Romanian practitioners who have been convinced that music and music therapy has a valuable part to play in the education and care of children and adults with disabilities and mental health needs. These practitioners – our Partners – have been pioneers. They have needed to convince colleagues, parents and authorities and to have the tenacity to champion the role of music when it might not be recognised by many.

Now they are being joined by a new generation of Romanian Music Therapists; individuals who have been passionately motivated to seek professional training outside the country and who are bringing their expertise and experience back to Romania to further develop the practice and recognition of music therapy in the country.  This year has provided two opportunities to strengthen relationships between these individuals: First at the European Music Therapy Confederation Conference in Edinburgh (June) and, most recently, around an informal dinner we convened in Oradea. It was exciting to bring together Conf. univ. dr. Lois Vaduva, Cristina Chiosea, DLP trainer/moderator and psychologist Monika Manases (Szabo), Larisa Neculai and Elenora Rosca (pictured below left to right) to hear how each person was currently putting their music therapy knowledge into practice and to share hopes for the future.  Angelica Postu, another Romanian Music Therapist, was sadly unable to be there but the group is currently planning its next online meeting with a commitment to dialogue and sharing experiences.

If you are a Romanian-born music therapist keen to find out more please get in touch with us or have a look at what the Asociația Română de Muzicoterapie is doing currently.
