As you may know, we launched our online music and dementia training course Music Helps in India last year. We have now had the opportunity to reflect on the impact that the course has had on our participants and share this with you.

An overwhelmingly positive response from participants confirmed the course was effective and enjoyable. It provided participants with an increased understanding of dementia, new skills and techniques and an extended music toolkit. The majority of participants left with greater knowledge and confidence to use music in dementia care. Notably, participants appreciated the dedicated section on using music for self-care, where we focus on the importance of caregivers taking care of themselves, too.

Participating caregivers reported it being highly useful for themselves, they also shared the incredible impact it has had on the people living with dementia in their care. When asked how music has helped the behavioural symptoms of their patients, 70% of participants saw a positive impact on their patients’ anxiety/distress. Additionally, 60% of caregivers saw an improvement in their patients’ self-confidence, sleep, and recognition of things and people.

Read more in our Executive Summary as we reflect on the participants’ feedback and share the strengths and vulnerabilities of the course.

If you are caring for someone, who is of Indian heritage and living with dementia, you can still enrol for free onto:
