  • Distance learning evaluation 2019

    Occupied Palestinian Territories

    We travelled to the Ocupied Palestinian Territories to undertake the second phase of a 2-year evaluation of our course “Music for Young Children with Disablities”. With the help of Sounds of Palestine and Musicians Without Borders, we were able to meet with, interview and observe sessions run by our Blended Learning Programme graduates 2016-19.

  • Supervised practice: Montessori School, Lighthouse School and Flowers School (Yangon) 2019

    Myanmar

    We worked with 3 teachers at Montessori School, Light House School and Flowers School in Myanmar, who wanted support in their use of music following introductory training they had received from an independent music therapist in 2012. The teachers participated in a 2-month period of supervised practice relating to the music sessions they were running with young children with additional needs.

  • Distance learning: Romania 2019

    Romania

    Our 9th delivery of this Distance Learning course, which comprises a series of 7 monthly tutorials and written assignments, participation in an Intensive Study Weekend – hosted by Hospice Casa Sperantei in Brasov – and a supervised Practical Assignment.

  • Conference Participation: Music Therapy Centre (Tbilisi) 2019

    Georgia

    We were delighted to contrbute to Georgia’s first Music Therapy Conference organised by our partners at the Music Therapy Centre in Tbilisi on World Music Therapy Day. The conference theme was ‘Music Unites’ and it was attended by over 55 people, including representatives from the Ministry of Education, parents of beneficiaries and practitioners from other towns in Georgia.

  • Locally-led training: Cyangugu 2019

    Rwanda

    We were pleased to help our partners and local trainers in Cyangugu in their decision to follow our model of providing ongoing support to participants in their introductory training to ensure a sustainable imapct. In 2019 they visited the participants in the training courses they offered in 2018 to provide advice, support and troubleshoot.

    We were pleased to facilitate a locally-led training course delivered by our parterns and local trainers in Cyangugu to new staff working with The Gallagher Trust with young people with disabilities in their Community-based Living programme.

    United Kingdom

    Guest lecture to students on the Masters in Music Therapy course at the University of the West of England, with a focus on skill-sharing as a technique for music therapists to extend the reach of their work and responsible international development practice.

    We returned to our partners at Hospice Ethiopia, FENAID and Gefersa Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre to support their continued use of music, see their practice, share successes, provide some additional training and troubleshoot.
