  • Musical instrument fund: Romania 2020

    Romania

    We donated new musical instruments to Centrul de Educatie Incluziva Nr.1 (Oradea), to replenish their musical instruments which have been much used within their music programme since their introductory training with us back in 2001.

  • Motivation programme 2020

    United Kingdom

    We offered three CPD events for early years practitioners to come together share successes, pool resources and troubleshoot. In light of COVID-19, two took place on Zoom. We also delivered monthly email bulletins, created new resources and guidance on using musical instruments alongside new social distancing and hygiene measures. We provided enhanced online access to resources and a mechanism through which individual partners might request specific support at any time.

  • Follow-up visit: Centrul de Educatie Incluziva Nr. 1 (Oradea) 2020

    Romania

    We returned to Centrul de Educatie Incluziva in Oradea, to support a workshop led by a Local Partner to nurture and inspire the use of music by the teachers at the school, who have been our Local Partners since 2002.

  • Follow-up visit: Invernevis House (Fort William) 2020

    United Kingdom

    We returned to Invernevis House (Fort William, Highlands), to support staff with their ongoing use of music following the introductory training project delivered in 2019. Sharing successes, developing practice and troubleshooting.

  • Musical instrument fund: UK 2020

    United Kingdom

    We piloted the Musical Instrument Fund in the UK, giving partners the opportunity to apply for new instruments when theirs have become tired, lost or broken. This was opportunity was in response to partners commenting that, in light of COVID-19, instrument sharing risked cross-contamination. Instruments were granted to Quaggy Children’s Centre (Greenwich).

  • Motivation programme 2019

    United Kingdom

    The tailored support we offer was pulled together and enhanced under the banner of our new “Motivation Programme”, guided by our Sustainability Review findings from 2018. This comprised CPD events for practitioners to come together share successes, pool resources and troubleshoot, a quarterly newsletter, enhanced online resources and a mechanism through which individual partners might request specific support at any time.

  • Follow-up visit: The Shraddha Centre (Hyderabad) 2019

    We returned to our partners at the Shraddha Centre for Special Education (Hyderabad), where we were pleased to learn their music programme is fully embedded into their weekly activities. A great opportunity to see their practice, share successes, provide some additional training and troubleshoot.

  • Distance learning programme evaluation 2019

    Occupied Palestinian Territories

    We travelled to the Ocupied Palestinian Territories to undertake the second phase of a 2-year evaluation of our course “Music for Young Children with Disablities”. With the help of Sounds of Palestine and Musicians Without Borders, we were able to meet with, interview and observe sessions run by our Distance Learning Programme graduates 2016-19.

  • Supervised practice: Montessori School, Lighthouse School and Flowers School (Yangon) 2019

    Myanmar

    We worked with 3 teachers at Montessori School, Light House School and Flowers School in Myanmar, who wanted support in their use of music following introductory training they had received from an independent music therapist in 2012. The teachers participated in a 2-month period of supervised practice relating to the music sessions they were running with young children with additional needs.
